How should academics, especially linguists and cognitive scientists, serve the academic community and the society at large?

At the department and college/university levels, my service has mainly focused on aligning the undergraduate education with the future careers for our students.
At the department level, I helped create the Bachelor of Science program in Language Science with 3 concentrations that prepares undergraduate students for careers in natural language processing, speech-language therapy, and user experience (UX/UI).
At the college-university level, I have developed the planning phase for a summit to bring the alumni, faculty, and industry partners to discuss curriculum development and future careers.
Beyond the university, I have worked on communicating the findings in the field of semantics and pragmatics, to the legal profession. With a group of linguists, we filed an amicus brief to the Supreme Court of the United States to explain how legal language that contains logical words can be interpreted using current empirical and theoretical evidence in linguistics. I have also helped organize the North American Conference in Iranian Linguistics (NACIL) to bring together linguists working on Iranian languages and provide a platform for sharing research and fostering collaborations.
